The Yulong Snow Mountains are the southermost modem marine glaciers in the temperate zone of the northern hemisphere. There are all together 13 peaks along the range of the mountains which stretch for over 35 kilometers from south to north. The summit, Shanzidou, is 5,596 meters above sea level. The snows on it never melt around the year and look very beautiful in a stretch of white colour. Looked at from a faraway place, the mountains covered with snows look like a silver dragon with the clouds curling up in the middle, the main peak being the head and the other peaks following be- hind. Hence the name, the Yulong(Jade Dragon) Snow Mountains.
The scenes on the Yulong Snow Mountains are very mag- nificent and uniquely beautiful. They are always changing with time, weather and season. They look like this in the morning, but they look like that in the evening; they look like this when it is fine, but they like that when it is cloudy; they look different in the four seasons of the year. Tourists will never feel tired of seeing them.
There are rich resources of forests, herbs and animals on the Yulong Snow Mountains. Lijiang is a famous growing place of trees of economic value, medicinal herbs and ornamental flowers.
The giant chairlift installed at the Yulong Snow Moun- tains is at the moment the only one at such a height above sea level in China. The tourists can take it to get to the remote place on the height of 4,500 meters. While going up and up, they can enjoy the marvelous beauties in the snow mountains. The sea of snow can be used as excellent natural skiing runs.
